Microbiological laboratories provide diagnosis and identification of infectious agents that may cause diseases as well as water and food-borne illnesses of public health significance.

The goal of the laboratory is to provide reliable, accurate and rapid diagnosis of diseases to the Westchester County health community.

The laboratories serve as the reference center for the diagnosis of tuberculosis, sexually transmitted diseases and parasitic and viral infections.

The laboratory collaborates with the Westchester County department of Health, New York State Department of Health, Center for Disease Control & Prevention and World Health Organization for the diagnosis and surveillance of certain diseases in the county.

The TB laboratory is open on weekends and holidays. All specimens should be brought to the specimen receiving area which are open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, Sunday and holidays 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Arrangements for emergency testing can be made by calling the laboratory at (914) 231-1610.
